The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed a homicide investigation for a person found shot in Newark's South Ward earlier today.
Newark Police responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of Lyons Avenue and Bergen Street shortly before noon.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male victim struck nearly a dozen times by gunfire. The unidentified male was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police have not announced an arrest of the gunman at this time.
Authorities say the latest homicide has left a disturbing week-long number of shootings that has three people dead, several injured, property damage and shots fired incidents.
