Firefighters battled a heavy fire that tore through a private residence in Belleville late Wednesday night.
According to preliminary information, crews were dispatched shortly before 9:50 p.m. to the 150s block of Brighton Avenue, where the first arriving unit encountered heavy fire blowing from first-floor windows of a two-and-a-half-story home.
Firefighters stretched multiple hose lines into the building while crews conducted searches and worked to ventilate the second floor.
A ladder truck was placed into operation, and a second hydrant was established as additional resources arrived.
Mutual aid was requested to assist at the scene and provide coverage while Belleville firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
By approximately 10:10 p.m., the fire had been placed under control, with crews remaining on scene conducting secondary searches, overhaul operations and securing utilities.
There was no immediate information available regarding injuries or what caused the fire.
The incident remains under investigation.
