Newark’s bravest firefighters assisted Bloomfield’s bravest in quickly bringing a fast-moving house fire under control early Wednesday morning.
The blaze broke out shortly after 1 a.m. in the 800 block of Broad Street, where police arriving at the scene reported an active structure fire with flames showing from the second-floor windows of a two-story home.
As flames rapidly extended through the building and into the attic, Bloomfield fire officials requested mutual aid, bringing Newark’s Bravest from Headquarters 17 into Bloomfield to assist with the firefighting operation.
Crews stretched multiple lines and aggressively attacked the blaze, knocking down the main body of fire before extinguishing flames that had extended into the walls and attic.
Gas and electrical service to the residence were shut down, and the fire was declared under control shortly before 2 a.m.
No injuries were immediately reported.
The cause of the fire remains under an active and ongoing investigation.
