A former Neptune Township police officer who authorities said concealed his criminal history and termination from the NYPD while applying for a law enforcement position in New Jersey has been sentenced to two years of probation.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said 39-year-old Briant K. Nixon was sentenced before Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley after previously pleading guilty to fourth-degree False Swearing and fourth-degree Unsworn Falsification to Authorities.
Nixon also relinquished his position as a police officer and permanently forfeited his right to hold public office in New Jersey.
An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Responsibility Unit found that Nixon worked as an NYPD officer from 2012 until 2017, when he was terminated following departmental violations connected to a 2015 domestic violence arrest and a violation of a restraining order.
Authorities said that when Nixon applied to the Neptune Township Police Department in May 2023, he failed to disclose the arrest, his previous employment with the NYPD and the fact that he had been terminated.
During a June 2026 plea hearing, Nixon admitted that he knowingly provided false information in connection with the application.
Prosecutors said he also falsely denied having prior domestic violence arrests while completing his New Jersey Police Training Commission license renewal application in March 2025.
Prosecutor Santiago said Nixon’s actions were not simply an omission but “intentional deception,” adding that such conduct has no place among law enforcement professionals.
The investigation was conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office Professional Responsibility Unit in collaboration with the Neptune Township Police Department.
