Authorities said the incident occurred on the night of August 18, 2025, when 33-year-old Yusef E. Muhammad allegedly stabbed a woman in the torso several times and fired a handgun at her before driving her to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The victim, also 33, underwent emergency surgery and survived her injuries.

Investigators determined that after dropping the victim off at the hospital, Muhammad fled in her vehicle, which was later recovered in Jersey City.

Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Hackensack Police Department filed charges the next day, including first-degree attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses.

Muhammad remains at large. Officials noted he previously worked as a long-haul truck driver, which may allow him to travel across state lines frequently.
