An alleged domestic violence dispute in Linden turned tragic Monday morning, leaving a woman critically injured and the suspected gunman dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Linden Police said at approximately 10:15 a.m., officers responded to the area of Carnegie Street and Monmouth Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, they discovered a woman on the sidewalk along the 600 block of Carnegie Street suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where she remains in critical condition.
Investigators said the suspect fled into a nearby home and barricaded himself inside. When officers later entered the residence, they found him deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Neighbors told RLS Media that the victim and suspect had been in a relationship for some years.
Several residents reported hearing multiple rounds fired before the woman was found wounded outside the home.
The Linden Police Detective Bureau, along with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, is handling the investigation.
