A judge in Newark sentenced 25-year-old Mark of Orange, to 31 years in state prison yesterday in connection with the May 2012 shooting, of a former Orange High School football standout.
Superior Court Judge Robert Gardner sentenced sentenced 22-year-old Mark Lovett of Orange, to 31 years by for his role in the murder of Malcolm Bagley a spokewoman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.
Lovett was convicted on July 15 of aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault and weapons charges in connection with a May 27, 2012 drive-by shooting in Orange.
Prosecutors said Lovett killed Bagley and injured another man during a drive-by shooting that occured on Taylor Street in Orange. After two attempts to reach a verdict, a jury finally convicted Lovett in July of aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault and weapons charges.
Lovette was acquitted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. A co-defendant, 26-year-old Shawn Watford,of East Orange, who is accused of driving the vehicle at the time of the shooting, case is still pending.
