A foot pursuit of a man wanted for a violent shooting that happened late last night in the city had over a dozen officers flood a section of the city in search of the suspect.
The incident originated in the area of High Street and Washington Street (a little after 11 p.m.) where residents in the area told RLS Metro Breaking News that about a dozen officers with flash lights and search equipment canvassed the area for a male suspect who was seen in the area carrying several items (possibly weapons).
According to reports, shortly before the search, gunfire rang out in the area sending cops to the scene where a male victim was struck by gunfire at that location.
EMS were immediately called in to transport the victim to University Hospital in Newark where he suffered an apparent gunshot injury to the back.
The victim's injuries were not reported to be life threatening. His age and identity has not been released at this time.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene in an unidentified dark colored vehicle.
Officers monitoring several parts of the city noticed the suspected vehicle fitting the description in the Duane Street area where they began to investigate.
A suspicious male suspect, who was reportedly in vicinity of the vehicle, began to run while carrying items in what appeared to be a bag according to residents on Duane Street.
During the pursuit, the suspect dropped the bag and continued to elude officers.
Cops recovered the bag that contained several unidentified items that are under investigation by authorities.
It is not clear if police ever apprehended the suspect. The vehicle possibly used in the incident was towed from the scene upon our arrival.
