Authorities in Freehold Borough have charged two Monmouth County residents in connection with a shooting near the borough’s public library that left one man hospitalized.
According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, 19-year-old Kanye P. Faucette of Keansburg has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, along with multiple weapons offenses stemming from the April 30 shooting.
Police responded at approximately 4:21 p.m. to the area of the Freehold Borough Public Library at 28 East Main Street following reports of gunfire.
Responding officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
A joint investigation conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Freehold Borough Police Department identified Faucette as the alleged shooter, officials said.
Investigators also charged 20-year-old Heaven D. Holmes of Keyport with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Authorities said Faucette was apprehended by the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. Both Faucette and Holmes are currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending future court proceedings.
