A fast-moving fire that broke out late Monday afternoon in Bloomfield damaged a home on Laurel Avenue and prompted a large multi-town emergency response.

According to a statement released by Bloomfield officials, fire crews were dispatched around 2:58 p.m. to 52 Laurel Avenue, where they arrived within minutes to find flames spreading from a vehicle in the rear of the property to the main structure.
Bloomfield firefighters, assisted by departments from Belleville, Nutley, and East Orange, worked swiftly to contain the blaze.
Mutual aid coverage at other Bloomfield firehouses was provided by West Orange, Montclair, and Verona, ensuring uninterrupted emergency service across the town.
Thanks to the prompt and coordinated response, the fire was brought under control before it could spread further.
The home sustained significant fire damage, but the sole resident escaped with only minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
No injuries to firefighters were reported.
“This was a dangerous and fast-moving fire, and I’m proud of how quickly our firefighters responded,” said Bloomfield Fire Chief Lou Venezia, commending the teamwork and professionalism shown on the scene.

Mayor Jenny Mundell also expressed gratitude to the emergency crews involved. “We’re fortunate no one was seriously hurt. I’m thankful to our Fire Department and all the assisting towns for their brave and timely efforts,” she said.
