UPDATE: East Orange Double Shooting Kills Man, Injures Another

East Orange

Law enforcement officials at the Essex County Prosecutor's Office have confirmed that one of the victims of a violent shooting episode in an East Orange community has died.

The preliminary investigation indicated that just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, East Orange Police rushed to 67 Munn Avenue to investigate reports of shots fired.

Units arrived and found two male victims suffering several bullet wounds.  Homicide

Local authorities contacted county homicide officials when one of the men was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting, according to The Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The other male was transported to University Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Essex County authorities have not released the motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

The location of the shooting is in close proximity to the East Orange Police Headquarters.

Since Thursday in East Orange, the recent shooting is the third person injured by gunfire in the city. On July 8, a suspect fired shots on Park Avenue that injured a man in that section of the town.

Since June, Saturday's homicide is also the second fatal shooting death where an 18-year-old man was shot dead on Father’s Day.

In May, The Essex County Prosecutor's Office recorded a homicide after a man was found shot dead at one of the city's illegal alcohol and party houses located on Clinton Avenue.

All of the fatal shootings remain under investigation.
