UPDATE: Authorities Investigate Gas Station Armed Robberies in Essex County

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that four suspects robbed five Essex County gas stations today with four committed in Newark.

Newark Major Crimes detectives are in the early stages of investigating the Newark gas station robberies and working with detectives from Belleville and Orange, towns that each had one gas station robbery.

The first incident in Newark was reported around noon when the group robbed a gas station at 786 and 810 Sanford Avenue in the Vailsburg section of the city.

Authorities said at approximatly 30 minutes later, the same group robbed two service stations on Mt. Prospect Avenue in the northern section of the city.

The suspects targeted and robbed a gas station on Franklin Street and Belmont Avenue in Belleville at around 9 a.m.

Each of the six robberies were committed by four masked men, wearing dark clothing and driving a gray Lexus with damage to the rear bumper and a Florida license plate.

Detectives actively following up on leads.
