Firefighters in Perth Amboy are investigating the cause of an early morning house fire that left two people seriously injured Friday.

The blaze broke out just before 2:45 a.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Chauncey Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the two-story home and received reports that occupants were trapped inside the building.
Crews quickly stretched multiple hose lines and launched an aggressive attack on the fire.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, but not before two victims were rescued from the residence suffering what authorities believe to be critical injuries.
The injured individuals were transported to an area hospital for treatment. As of 4:30 a.m., the extent of their conditions had not been officially confirmed.
Fire investigators from Perth Amboy and Middlesex County remained at the scene Friday morning working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
