State Police Arrest Two Teens for Pursuit that Ended in Crash in Newark

New Jersey State Police are currently investigating a crash that resulted from a pursuit early Wednesday morning.

According to State Police, troopers attempted to stop a Honda Civic at approximately 3:15 a.m. for a traffic violation on Route 21 near milepost 6 in Belleville.

Police said the vehicle didn't stop for the officers and they pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens. During the pursuit, officers discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Paterson.

According to police, the driver attempted to turn onto 3rd Avenue in Newark when it struck another vehicle at the intersection. The three occupants then fled the vehicle on foot.

According to police, the driver and one occupant were located and arrested.

State Police said that the driver, a 17-year-old juvenile male was charged with receiving stolen property, assault by auto, eluding, obstruction, and criminal mischief. A 16-year-old juvenile male passenger was charged with receiving stolen property, eluding, and obstruction

This incident currently remains under investigation.
