Second Shooting This Week on 15th Avenue in Newark Injures Male

Police in Newark are investigating the motive behind a shooting that injured a male on 15th Avenue  Saturday evening.

In the second shooting of the week in the area of 15th Avenue and South 19th Street, police responded to multiple calls and a ShotSpotter device reporting shots fired around 6:17 p.m. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found multiple shell casings, but no victims were found, 

Residents informed police that they saw an injured male enter a vehicle and the car sped away from the scene. 

While detectives canvassed the community, officials at University Hospital notified NPD that a gunshot victim entered the emergency room suffering bullet wounds. 

The extent of his condition has not been reported as fatal at this time. 

On Monday, May 29th, police responded to the same neighborhood to investigate reports of shots fired. EMS took away a person while police searched the community for additional victims. 

Authorities have not reported if the two incidents are related, but both situations remain under investigation by Newark Police.
