Middlesex County officials announced today that a Perth Amboy man has been arrested and charged in relation to a non-fatal shooting.
According to officials, on July 19, at approximately 12:40 a.m., authorities responded to the El Patio Bar located at 417 Fayette Street following the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located six individuals who sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds.
An investigation by Detective Manuel Lopez of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined Alexander Corneil, 27, of Perth Amboy attempted to fatally shoot a man known to him in the area surrounding the bar.
The investigation further determined the intended target and five bystanders were struck by the gunfire.
County officials said that today, Corneil was arrested in the Bronx by members of the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, the Perth Amboy Police Department, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to officials, Corneil was charged with six counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and five counts of second-degree aggravated assault.
Corneil is presently lodged at Rikers Island Correctional Facility where he is pending extradition to New Jersey.
