Paterson, NY Residents Arrested Following Bergen County Drug Investigation

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrests of Kevin Marsh, 39, of Poughkeepsie, New York, Dale Smart, 38, of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Sashagaye Brown, 31, of Paterson, on drug charges.

During December 2017, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that Brown was distributing large quantities of marijuana in the Bergen County area.

Police while conducting surveillance on December 8th, observed as Brown met with Marsh and Smart in Hackensack.

An investigative motor vehicle stop was conducted, in which Brown, Marsh, Smart and a female juvenile under Brown’s care were present in the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, twelve pounds of marijuana were located and seized from the trunk.

The defendants were placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for arrest processing. The female juvenile was transported to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and later turned over to her mother.

Authorities charged Marsh and Smart with one count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana over 5 lbs. but less than 25 lbs. While authorities charged Brown with one count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana over 5 lbs. but less than 25 lbs. and one count of Child Endangerment.

All three suspects were released on summonses pending their first appearance court dates on scheduled for December 27th.

Prosecutor Grewal states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
