A 46-year-old Newark man was taken into custody and charged with criminal trespass, criminal mischief and obstruction after he was found hiding inside a nearby dwelling.
According to police, on December 20th, officers responded to the 600 block of Sheridan Avenue on a report of a male fleeing on foot into Roselle Park from the CVS store in Union following a shoplifting incident.
The male was said to have entered a nearby dwelling and refused to exit. Officers from Union and Roselle Park searched the dwelling after finding the side door lock broken and unsecure.
They eventually located, Sean Kirby, 46, of Newark, hiding in the basement of the dwelling.
He was placed under arrest and charged with criminal trespass, criminal mischief and obstruction.
Kirby was released on a summons awaiting a court appearance.
