Newark High School Wrestler Scores Big in District 14 Competition in Livingston

Newark Nutley Livingston

Newark Arts High School Senior and East Side High School wrestler Alexander Rodriguez begins this week with a victorious smile and a winning glow after his upsetting win in Livingston this weekend.

Rodriguez scored a stunning upset victory over three-time county and and two-time district champion Robert Duxbury from Nutley in front of a large crowd in Livingston on Saturday.

The upsetting victory happened at around 2:24 in the second period of the 138 pound competition when Rodriguez who came into the match with a 28-9 record surprised Duxbury (33-1) with the easy pin.

Rodriguez said he began the day's competition in Livingston with three pins before heading into the battle with the Essex County champion (Duxbury).

A first year wrestler and senior Instrumental Major who plays the trumpet at Newark Arts High School, Rodriguez wrestled for East Side and has only been engaged in the sport for literally three months.

Rodriguez also takes up mixed martial arts boxing when he is not on the mats wrestling.

Congratulations Alex from our morning Crew at Metro!
