Mother, Son Arrested in Elmwood Park on Drug Charges

Elmwood Park

Authorities announced the arrests of John J. Schiraldi, 26, and his mother, Lisa Schiraldi, 48, of Bergenfield, on charges related to the possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

According to police, on Monday, May 15, while conducting surveillance in Paterson, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office observed them conduct a drug transaction.

A mobile surveillance was then initiated, at which time an investigative motor vehicle stop was conducted on Broadway in Elmwood Park.

A subsequent search of the motor vehicle in which the defendants were traveling resulted in the seizure of heroin.

They were both arrested without incident and were charged with one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, namely heroin. Both were released on their own recognizance pending a first appearance court date on Wednesday, May 31, in the Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court.

Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
