Linden Car Crash Kills Pedestrian

Police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a Linden resident as he was crossing the street.

According to authorities, at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 10th, police responded to reports of an auto-pedestrian motor vehicle collision on N. Wood Avenue at the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue.

Initial reports indicate that a 2004 Ford F250 pickup truck approached the intersection from E. Elizabeth Avenue and struck a pedestrian as it made a right turn onto N. Wood Avenue. After striking the pedestrian the truck collided with 2016 mini-cooper that was stopped in traffic.

Officials say the driver of the vehicle, a 78-year-old Linden man, was treated for minor injuries at RWJBH Rahway while the driver of the mini-cooper was unharmed. The 54-year-old pedestrian was transported to Newark University Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Police say N. Wood Avenue was closed for nearly three hours following the crash. It was reopened at approximately ‪8:30 p.m.‬

The crash remains under investigation by the Linden Police Department Traffic Bureau and the Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force.
