Jersey City Man Struck, Severely Injured by Car in Linden

Linden Police officials said a 57-year-old Jersey City man was seriously injured in an auto-pedestrian motor vehicle crash on Wednesday morning.

Police say at approximately 9:50 a.m. Linden Police units responded to the 700 block of E. Elizabeth Avenue on reports of a serious auto-pedestrian crash. 

Upon arrival, Linden officers located the victim trapped beneath the vehicle. Workers from a nearby auto-body shop were able to lift the car and help free the man.

According to Linden Police, the man was treated on the scene and transported to Newark University Hospital with serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the man was crossing East Elizabeth Avenue when he was struck by a 2007 Kia SUV traveling west. 

Police say the driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old Linden man, was not injured in the crash. 

The incident remains under investigation by the Linden Police Traffic Bureau, and anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Inv. Ryan Zaccaro at (908) 474-8505.
