Jersey City Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Kidnapping, Assault at Fairleigh Dickinson University

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll announced the sentencing of 22-year-old Jayshawn E. Moore of Jersey City, following his involvement in a serious criminal incident at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park.AdOn April 12, 2024, Judge Stephen J. Taylor, P.J.Cr. of the New Jersey Superior Court, handed down a 15-year sentence to Moore, with specific provisions for no early release.

The court has mandated that Moore serve at least 85% of his sentence under the No Early Release Act.

In addition to his prison term, Moore is required to register under Megan’s Law and will be under parole supervision for life. The judge also issued a strict no-contact order with the victim.

The case stems from an incident on April 9, 2023, where Moore, who had no affiliations with Fairleigh Dickinson University, coerced a female victim into a dormitory room.AdOver several hours, Moore subjected the victim to verbal threats, physical violence, and aggravated sexual assault, allegedly while armed with a knife.

Moore’s arrest followed two days after the incident, leading to his detention at the Morris County Correctional Facility.

He entered guilty pleas to first-degree kidnapping and first-degree aggravated sexual assault on October 25, 2023.

This sentencing marks a significant conclusion to a case that has deeply affected the university community and highlights the serious consequences of such violent crimes.
