Four men from Hudson and Essex counties were arrested Monday after Union Police reportedly discovered a loaded handgun stolen from North Carolina during a traffic stop.
According to information released by the Union Police Department, Officers Ferreira and Cano Jaco were monitoring traffic near the Wawa at 1750 Route 22 on October 19 when they noticed a Nissan pickup truck with several equipment violations.
Police stopped the vehicle near 1865 Vauxhall Road, where an investigation led officers to search the truck and recover a loaded 9mm handgun that authorities said had been reported stolen in North Carolina.
The four occupants were identified as:
- Nyseem McNair, 19, of Jersey City
- Kemavi McBryde, 19, of Jersey City
- Demetrius Woods, 21, of Bayonne
- Dewayne Rivers, 21, of Newark
Authorities said all four men were charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
Union Police Director Carl Riley praised the officers for their work, saying the recovery removed a potentially dangerous weapon from the streets.
