Off-Duty Cop Who Struck, Killed Woman in Long Branch Charged with Strict Liability Vehicular Homicide

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced today that a driver has been charged in the fatal collision in which a pedestrian was struck and killed as she crossed Ocean Boulevard in Long Branch on September 22nd.

 

Police today charged Jake Pascucci, 28, of Long Branch, with the third degree crime of strict liability vehicular homicide caused by driving while intoxicated or under the influence.

 

The deceased pedestrian was identified as Karen Borkowski, 66, of Stanhope, who was struck and killed by a car driven by off-duty Police Officer Jake Pascucci. Borkowski was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash which occurred on Ocean Boulevard at 8:15 p.m.

 

Three other motor vehicle summons were previously issued for Pascucci for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and careless driving.

 

During the investigation is was determined that Pascucci was driving his personal car, a 2016 Jeep, on Ocean Boulevard and struck Karen Borowski as she attempted to cross Ocean Boulevard, a four lane highway.

 

The investigation is active and is continuing.
