Drew University To Add Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Teams

Madison

September 2019 - Drew University will add women’s and men’s volleyball to its athletics program, Director of Athletics Christa Racine has announced. The teams will become the Rangers’ 21st and 22nd varsity programs.

“Drew Athletics is excited to be expanding the Ranger team,” said Racine. “Volleyball is an extremely popular sport at the scholastic level. I am excited to begin the recruitment of our women’s and men’s teams and see them compete in the near future. The University's decision to increase our varsity sport offerings demonstrates a strong commitment to the student-athlete experience at Drew.”

The women’s team will begin play in the fall of 2021 as a member of the Landmark Conference. The men’s team will make its debut in the spring of 2022 in a conference yet to be decided.

Volleyball marks the first expansion of the Rangers’ varsity athletic teams since men’s and women’s golf were added in 2016.

“I am incredibly excited to launch these two new teams at Drew,” said Drew President MaryAnn Baenninger. “These teams will help bring more stellar student-athletes to both our athletics program and the classroom. Volleyball is an exciting highly-competitive sport that most certainly should be in the lineup with our other varsity sports.”

Drew will become the eighth member of the Landmark Conference’s women’s volleyball program, joining The Catholic University of America, Elizabethtown College, Goucher College, Juniata College, Moravian College, Susquehanna University and University of Scranton.
