Distraction Burglary at Home of Elderly Roselle Park Man Probes Investigation

Roselle Park

The Roselle Park Police Department is investigating a report of a distraction burglary that targeted an elderly resident Monday afternoon.

According to police, on Jan. 8th at around 12:30 p.m. an elderly male resident was targeted, when an individual - described as a light-skinned male, average build, approximately 5’9" tall, wore a knit cap and produced a plumber’s badge - requested entry into the residence to check under his sink for any leaks.

Once inside the home, the individual remained with the resident as he allegedly checked under the sink and communicated with another person via two-way radio.

After the brief interaction with the resident, the suspect left the home claiming everything looked good with the plumbing.

Later on that day, the homeowner realized that personal belongings were missing from the home and realized he was burglarized during the previous incident.

Detectives discovered that the suspect arrived in a newer model, white, Ford F150 crew cab, with dark tinted windows, running boards, chrome wheels, black cover over the bed of the truck and red 4x4 written on the side of it.

Police said two other male wore dark clothing and exited the same vehicle then entered the home at the same time of the incident and removed the resident’s belongings.

The suspect reportedly placed the items in the rear of the pickup and fled onto Galloping Hill Road.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the Roselle Park Police Department at (908) 245-2300.
