Maleia Cole, 33, of Camden, was charged with murder for the beating death of 35-year-old Jason Lewis, of Camden, on September 2, 2017.
Camden County Police responded to a 9-1-1 call for an aggravated assault on a man at the Pantry One, a food market, on the 2200 block of Mount Ephraim Avenue in Woodlynne.
The victim, Jason Lewis, was conscious but bleeding from injuries to his head and face when responding officers arrived on scene.
Lewis told the officers that Maleia Cole followed him across the street and into the store while beating him repeatedly with two metal kitchen frying pans. He then told them that she fled in the direction of her residence on the 2100 block of Mount Ephraim Avenue.
Lewis was hospitalized after complaining of pain and dizziness. He underwent emergency surgery but eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on September 26th.
Cole was charged with one count of first degree murder on September 30th, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Woodlynne Police Department Public Safety Director Edwin Figueroa.
Cole was apprehended by the US Marshals on October 2nd in Woodlynne.
The defendant was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. Under the recent Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order she be detained without bail or released with conditions.
