Bound Brook, Plainfield Men Charged in Connection with Manville Shooting

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Manville Borough Chief of Police Mark Peltack announced the arrest of Rashir Abner, 31, of Bound Brook, and Najee McCoy, 30 of Plainfield.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on June 23rd, at approximately 12:20 a.m., multiple 9-1-1 calls were received regarding a large fight and shots fired in the area of Foxtails Lounge located on South Street in Manville.

Officials say detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Manville Police Department subsequently obtained video of the incident. The video footage revealed two males in possession of handguns. Further investigation was conducted in conjunction with the Plainfield Police Department and revealed that the two individuals in the video footage were identified as Rashir Abner and Najee McCoy.

According to authorities, on June 28th, members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Manville Police Department and Bound Brook Police Department arrested defendant Rashir Abner at his residence in Bound Brook without incident. On June 29th, members of the Plainfield Police Department arrested defendant Najee McCoy in Plainfield without incident.

​Officials charged Abner and McCoy with 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun and 2nd degree Certain Persons Not to Possess a Handgun. They were subsequently lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
