Bloomfield Man Caught Allegedly Buying Drugs in Newark

Authorities took two men into custody and charged them with multiple drug related offenses.

According to authorities, in response to neighborhood complaints of gang activity and open-air drug trafficking in the area, officers from the department’s Bureau of Narcotics staged a plainclothes surveillance operation near the intersection of North 9th Street and 4th Avenue on yesterday (Monday).

Authorities said their detectives observed **Mr. Jamar Horne, 39, of Newark,** loitering in front of an abandoned building, located at 207 North 9th Street.

Within moments, a taxi pulled up and the passenger, **Mr. Omar Gely, 35, of Bloomfield,** exited the cab and engaged Horne in conversation.

Horne then walked down the driveway of the abandoned building and allegedly remove items from a plastic bag that was hidden under tree branches.

Police said Mr. Horne then exchanged the items with Mr. Gely for cash.

The taxi was followed by police before they conducted a motor vehicle stop a few blocks away.

Mr. Gely voluntarily surrendered two clear plastic vials, containing ‘crack’ cocaine, and six heroin-filled glassine envelopes, stamped ‘SUNSHINE” in blue ink, to our detectives.

Police placed Mr. Gely under arrest without further incident, and the taxi driver was released.

​Simultaneously, Police detained Horne at the abandoned building then seized the plastic bag which officers found to contain an additional 86 vials of ‘crack’ cocaine and an additional 62 similarly marked decks of heroin.

Police allegedly found Horne in possession of $106 in cash which they identified as drug proceeds.

​Authorities charged Mr. Horne with two counts each of the sale of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS and possession of CDS with intent to distribute while​​ Mr. ​Gely was charged with two counts of possession of CDS.
