Bridge Work to Begin Next Friday on Belleville Avenue in Bloomfield

Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- Scheduled maintenance to the Belleville Ave. Bridge over the Garden State Parkway will begin next Friday night and completed on an expedited two-week schedule.

This is part of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s bridge maintenance program along the Parkway.

During the first two and a half days of work, from September 27 at 10:00 pm until the early morning on Monday, September 30, the Belleville Ave. The bridge will be closed to cars and pedestrians in both directions.

After the weekend, beginning on the 30th, the bridge will be open in the westbound direction only until evening on October 11 to perform the work on the eastbound half of the bridge.

Traffic wanting to cross in the eastbound direction will follow the detour plan. (south on John F. Kennedy Drive North to east on to Liberty St. to north on Williamson Ave.)

Pedestrians will have access to the westbound side of the bridge.

Detour signs have already been posted for both directions. J.M. Sanzari Construction Company is the contractor for this project.

“The Turnpike Authority has informed us this work needs to be done to ensure the structural integrity of Belleville Ave.

There won’t be any changes in dimensions to surface, although there will be new asphalt laid down that. Like all multi-day roadwork projects, this is an inconvenience to Bloomfield residents, but we all are well aware of bridge safety and the need for infrastructure improvements,” said Mayor Michael Venezia.

“The Bloomfield Police Department will be on hand to monitor traffic in the first few days and ensure that the detours work well.”

Updates on this project will also be posted on the Bloomfield municipal website. Road closure alerts are posted online at https://www.bloomfieldtwpnj.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?CID=5.
