22-Year-Old Belleville Man Shot in East Orange

Authorities in East Orange Police Department are actively investigating a shooting that left a young man injured early Sunday morning.

According to East Orange officials, the incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on April 26. 

Responding officers located a 22-year-old male from Belleville suffering from a gunshot wound to the left side of his abdomen.

 

The victim was initially transported to CareWell Health Medical Center before being transferred to University Hospital (UMDNJ), where he underwent surgery. 

Authorities say he is currently in stable condition and recovering.

 

Preliminary findings indicate that six 9mm shell casings were recovered at the scene. Additionally, one parked vehicle was struck by gunfire during the incident.

 

Detectives have obtained statements from three witnesses and are continuing to canvass the area for surveillance footage. 

Investigators believe the shooting may be connected to activity near a private event held behind 220 Central Avenue.
