Shovel Dispute Ends in Newark Shooting

A dispute over a shovel Sunday morning ended with shots fired in Newark.

Police responded to Lindsley Avenue for report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, police spoke with home the 38-year-old victim who told officers he found a shovel on the ground outside which he used to shovel an elderly neighbor home shortly after 10 a.m. As he shoveled, the victim claims a female confronted him claiming the shovel belonged to her.

Prior to returning the shovel, the victim told police words were exchanged. As he walked away, the female and three men, once again approached him, this time pointing a gun at his head. The female then ordered the armed male to fire.

The victim was shot in the buttocks and then by his mouth after a struggle to disarm the assailant.

The group was last seen fleeing in a green vehicle east on Lindsley Avenue.

No update was immediately available as to the victim's condition

Police are investigating.
