Shooting Injures Man in Newark

Newark

An investigation is underway into a shooting that left a man seriously injured overnight in Newark.

Police responded to shots fired that erupted in the 100 block of Peshine Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m.

Units arrived to the scene and found a male victim suffering a gunshot injury to the chest at that location.

EMS transported the conscious and alert victim to University Hoapital where his injuries were not immediately reported to be life threatening.

Authorities searched the area and hospitals in the area for other possible victims.

This is (unofficially) the city's first shooting incident with bodily injury for 2016.

The incident is being looked into by the Newark Police Department.
