Shooting Injures Young Child, Man in Newark

A shooting that left a child and a male vicim injured overnight is under investigation by authorities.

Officials at The University Hospital immediately contacted police when a man walked into the hospital with a child, both suffering injury from gunfire.

According to initial reports, the man was transported by private vehicle when he entered the hospital's emergency department with the boy at around 10 p.m.

The boy (who is reported to be around 5-years-old) suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg while the man suffered a non-life threatening injury.

It is not immediately known what area of the city the man and the boy were injured, but there were several sections of the city where authorities investigated reports of shots fired through out the evening.

Police were also seen conducting an investigation near a movie theater located on Bergen Street and Springfield Avenue shortly before the pair entered the hospital.

The relationship between the child and the man could not immediately be confirmed.

The pair are reportedly in stable condition.

The shootings are under investigation by Newark Police.
