Authorities are investigating a shooting that sent a woman to the hospital overnight in Newark.
About a half dozen or more shots rang out in the 100 block of 12th Ave. forcing residents to the floors of their homes at around 9:30 p.m.
Police rushed to the scene where they immediately located evidence of a shooting but not victim at that location.
University Hospital officials contacted authorities when a private vehicle carrying a woman who was suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the legs arrived to the hospital.
According to initial reports, the woman was driven to the hospital by friends after gunfire struck her near South 8th Street near 12th Avenue.
The woman's injuries were not reported as life threatening.
Police are on the search for as many as four suspects who fled the scene in a silver colored 4-door Nissan immediately after the shooting.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
