Gunfire Erupts in Several Newark Neighborhoods

Police in Newark are looking into who fired off rounds of gunfire in several Newark neighborhoods last night.

Reports of shot fired that rang out in the area of Ludlow Street at around 8 p.m. sent cops to the scene to investigate.

Units arrived to the scene to find multiple shell casings but a search of the area did not locate a victim.

At around 9 p.m. on nearby Van Vechten Street, police located several shell casings in the area but no victim.

Gunfire erupted in the areas of Hill Street and Court Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. sending a large police response to the scene where officer located as many as 8 shell casings at the scene.

There were no victims located after a thorough search of the area.

Police said a dark colored vehicle, (possibly an Infinity) fled the scene in an unknown direction immediately after the shooting.

There were other ShotSpotter activity in the city's South Ward.
