Armed Robbery Leaves Man Shot in Newark's North Ward

Police are on the scene of a shooting that injured a man in the city's North Ward a short time ago.

Multiple rounds of gunfire rang out in the 1300 block of McCarter Highway just inside 4th Ave. at around 6:20 p.m. sendong police to the scene where they found a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

The man (who is reported to be around the age 32-years-old) was transported to University Hospital and is expected to survive.

According to a preliminary investigation, the suspects reportedly approached the victim and demanded cash. When the victim refused and began to fight the suspect, gunfire erupted.

The suspect was able to flee the scene with the victim's wallet.

The suspect is described as a 5'9" black male last scene mask and a grey hoodie. He was armed with a silver handgun with a laser on it.

The victim reported that he attacked the suspect because he though the gun was a toy.
