Suspects Exchange Gunfire with Police in Newark

A late night wild shootout that happened in the city had police apprehend two suspects.

Multiple rounds of gunfire was exchanged between police and two male suspects at around 11:30 p.m. in the area of North 12th Street and 4th Ave.

All of the circumstances behind the shooting are unclear at this time but police chased the men through the North Ward neighborhoods exchanging gunfire for several minutes when one of the suspects reportedly surrendered near the scene.

The other suspect continued to flee the scene through several yards bleeding heavily after possibly being struck by gunfire.

Police followed a large blood trail through several yards where they located a possible suspect under a porch in the 200 block of North 11th Street at around 1:15 a.m.

A special police tactical unit was called to the scene where they negotiated with the person to come out for nearly an hour.

At around 2:15 a.m., police were able to get the suspect from under the porch, placing him in handcuffs.

A perimeter around the neighborhood continued as police searched for evidence and other possible suspects.

It is not immediately clear if the suspect found under the porch was involved with the incident.
