Newark

Authorities in Newark are investigating a shooting that injured a man near a club located in the city's Ironbound section.

The investigation began when a male victim walked into University Hospital's Emergency room suffering a gunshot graze wound to the head shortly before 1 a.m.

The victim reportedly told police that he was struck by gunfire somewhere on Ferry Street shortly before entering the hospital.

Police scrambled to area where a search revealed that the victim was struck near a club located near Garrison Street and Wilson Ave.

Several residents in the area that we spoke to said that they heard about three shots then a swarm of police searching the area.

"The police never had on sirens and searched the area very quietly. That's why I didn't believe that anyone was hurt" a Wilson Ave. resident said.

The victim's injury was not reported to be life threatening and more so like a graze injury according to reports.

It is not immediately clear if the incident is related to the club.

"You hear small things near the club but nothing like this" the resident said.

The Newark Police Department are investigating.
