A 22-year-old man convicted of killing his 3-month-old son while attempting to kill child's mother and her roommate was sentenced today to 113 years.
Hudson County Superior Court Judge John Young told Frederico Bruno, 22, during today's sentencing at the Hudson County Administration Building.
Frederico Bruno, 22, was convicted in May for the murder of his son, Damien Bruno, and the attempted murder of Saydee Lee Figueroa (ex-girlfriend) and Madelyn Calderon (Figueroa's roommate).
According to reports, on July 27, 2012, Bruno entered the apartment carrying a meat cleaver, dressed all in black and wearing gloves.
Sometime around 6:30 p.m., Figueroa, Damien, Madelyn, returned to the apartment. At this time, Bruno launched at Calderon, stabbing her in the face and body with the meat cleaver until it broke in two. He then grabbed a knife and continued to attack Calderon. Then began attacking Figueroa stabbing her in the neck.
Figueroa, with son in arms, was shoved with such force that an air conditioner, Figueroa and baby went through a second-floor window.
However, went down to the backyard and Bruno continued beating Figueroa this time with a metal stool, according to the prosecutor.
Security surveillance presented during the trial shows captured parts of the attack.
Bruno was taken into custody after a tip led police to a vacant Belleville apartment where authorities found him hiding in a refrigerator.
Bruno will receive credit for time served allowing him to be eligible for parole in about the year 2088.
