A 71-year-old Cliffside Park man faces charges after authorities said he crashed into a parked vehicle in Bogota, causing his car to overturn and leaving his elderly passenger seriously injured.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, police responded to Queen Anne Road near Maple Street around 8:33 p.m. Friday, October 30, following reports of a serious crash.

Arriving officers found a 2018 Kia overturned on its side, trapping the driver, identified as Yun S. Kang, and his 70-year-old male passenger from Fairview.

Emergency responders freed both men from the vehicle. The passenger suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he remained in stable condition. Kang was not injured.

Investigators determined that Kang was traveling south on Queen Anne Road when he struck a legally parked, unoccupied vehicle, causing his Kia to roll onto its side.

Authorities said Kang was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and county accident investigators responded to conduct a joint investigation.

Kang was arrested Saturday, October 31, and charged with assault by auto, driving while intoxicated and related traffic offenses.

He was lodged in the Bergen County Jail and appeared in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

The investigation was conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Bogota Police Department.
