Authorities in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a male victim critically injured Saturday night.
The circumstances and motive behind the shooting remain under an active and ongoing investigation, and authorities have released very little information regarding the incident.
According to preliminary information, shortly before 8:10 p.m., gunfire rang out in the area of Lyons Avenue and Aldine Street, sending several South Ward police units to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim received medical treatment at the scene before being rushed to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of our latest update at approximately 10:30 p.m.
Police secured the area while investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
No arrests were immediately reported, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
