Authorities in Passaic County are investigating a shooting incident after gunfire erupted in Paterson late Monday night, but a 19-year-old man escaped without being struck.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Officer-in-Charge Patrick Murray, officers were dispatched to the area of 360 Union Avenue at approximately 10:24 p.m. on August 31 following reports of shots fired.
Responding officers located what investigators described as a potential crime scene and identified a 19-year-old male victim. 
Authorities confirmed that the victim was not struck by gunfire.
Officials have not released information regarding what may have led to the shooting or whether any suspects have been identified.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, and authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
