Newark Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who was captured on surveillance video allegedly firing several rounds on a city street before retreating into a nearby home.
The shooting happened on June 2 in the 400 block of 4th Avenue, where authorities said the suspect was seen running from the front steps of a residence and into the street.
According to police, the man pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired several shots toward an unknown target before returning to the steps and entering the home.
At approximately 10:14 p.m., Newark Police officers responded to the neighborhood after the city’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire.
A search of the area led officers to four .40-caliber shell casings. Investigators also discovered two vehicles that had been struck by bullets.
Police said the suspect was wearing a blue Nike Tech sweatsuit and black slippers at the time of the shooting.
