Authorities in Monmouth County are investigating a collision that claimed the life of a 44-year-old bicyclist in Neptune City.

According to information released by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, Neptune City Police responded to the area of State Route 35 and Fourth Avenue at approximately 4:53 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, following reports of a crash involving a vehicle and bicyclist.
A preliminary investigation determined that a male driver operating a 2014 Hino box truck was traveling south on Route 35 when the vehicle collided with an adult male riding a Cannondale bicycle westbound across the highway.
The 44-year-old bicyclist suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities said the victim remained hospitalized before succumbing to his injuries on Saturday, August 8.
The driver of the box truck remained at the scene following the collision.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and the Neptune City Police Department.
