A former U.S. Postal Service employee has admitted to breaking into multiple post offices across New Jersey in early 2023 to steal mail, according to information released by U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.
Zyeama Johnson, 31, of Jersey City, pleaded guilty on July 28 in U.S. District Court in Newark before Judge Madeline Cox Arleo to six counts of post office burglary.
Federal prosecutors said Johnson carried out a series of break-ins during January and February 2023 after her employment with the Postal Service.
Investigators said she entered post offices after business hours with the intent to steal mail.
In one incident on Jan. 10, 2023, Johnson allegedly broke into a Jersey City post office and stole two USPS mail bins and a parcel bin.
Each count of post office burglary carries a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000, or twice the amount of any financial gain or loss, whichever is greater.
Johnson’s sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
