A serious overnight crash has forced the closure of both directions of Route 21 in Nutley as authorities investigate what has been reported as a possible fatal collision.
The crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday near Exit 15. Initial emergency radio reports indicated a motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries, prompting requests for numerous Basic Life Support units to respond to the scene.
By approximately 11:52 p.m., the incident had been upgraded to a possible fatal crash, with all northbound and southbound lanes of Route 21 closed to allow investigators to process the scene.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the investigation remained active.
Authorities have not yet released official details regarding the number of vehicles involved, the identities of those affected, or confirmed any fatalities.
