A Camden County investigation has determined that a Camden man fatally stabbed his girlfriend at her Lindenwold home before later taking his own life, according to information released by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities said detectives responded to the 500 block of Bilper Avenue in Lindenwold at approximately 11:39 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, following reports of a stabbing.
When investigators arrived, they found 53-year-old Marlene Carmichael of Lindenwold suffering from multiple stab wounds.
She was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 2:22 p.m.
During the investigation, detectives identified Carmichael’s boyfriend, 64-year-old Harry Gibbs of Camden, as the person responsible for the fatal stabbing.
At approximately 3:23 p.m., officers with the Camden County Police Department responded to the 1100 block of MacArthur Drive in Camden after receiving a report of a man inside a vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The man, identified as Gibbs, was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:56 p.m.
The investigation remains active and ongoing by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Lindenwold Police Department. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
