Newark Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery that left a grocery store employee’s husband wounded in a shooting.

According to information released by the City of Newark, the robbery occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m. on September 8, 2025, at a grocery store located in the 200 block of Hawthorne Avenue.
Authorities said two men wearing ski masks entered the business, where one suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at a customer while the second demanded cash from the employee working behind the register.
Investigators said the suspects became dissatisfied with the amount of money inside the register and then attempted to steal merchandise from the store before leaving.
As the suspects exited the business, the employee’s husband confronted them, leading to a struggle.
During the altercation, the man was shot and transported to University Hospital for treatment.
Police described Suspect #1 as wearing black-and-gray sneakers, dark gray shorts, a silver shirt, a cross-body bag, a silver necklace with a pendant, and a multi-colored ski mask.
Suspect #2 was wearing white sneakers, khaki cargo pants, a white Nike zip-up jacket, and a black ski mask.
The investigation remains active.
